Of course spring brings with it the famous cherry blossoms, or Sakura as they’re known locally. These gorgeous blooms are typically on show from late March until early April and offer an impressive and unforgettable sight. All throughout spring, the temperature is a comfortable daytime 15°C to 20°C and the country is alive with festivities. Travelling in Japan during the summer months is all about fireworks and festivals. Keep in mind that temperatures at this time of year can reach up to 32°C with humidity levels often exceeding 70%. However summer in Japan is all about celebration - you’ll be rewarded with vibrant festivals, amazing fireworks displays and delicious seasonal food. The main sites tend to less busy at this time of year, and shhh, we didn't tell you this, but summer is one of the least expensive times to travel to Japan!
At this time of year the countryside blazes red and orange, with the turning of the leaves of the indigenous momjiia maple tree providing a showstopping display up and down the country. The autumn colours are also more reliable than the fleeting cherry blossom and last from September through until November. Temperatures in autumn are cool but mild - ranging from 18°C to 28°C during the day. This is also a really popular time to visit Japan so make sure you secure your spot if you have your eye on this stunning season!
Winter in Japan is a season of festive elegance. White snow blankets ancient temples, hot springs steam against the cool air and the country is awash with bright festivals and glittering lights. At this time of year, temperatures generally range from 2°C to 12°C in Central Japan with occasional cold snaps bringing snow in.
