Georgia holidays are one of the best kept secrets in travel but that surely can’t stay the case for long. Despite its emergence from the austerity of Soviet rule over 30 years ago, travellers have only recently discovered the delights of this hidden gem; a destination with jagged mountains, lush valleys, balmy beaches, vibrant cities and a rich cultural heritage.

Sitting on the fringes of Europe but with one foot firmly in Asia, this is country that has played a starring role in the affairs of vast empires, was a key stopover on the Silk Road and has been hidden away behind the Iron Curtain in more recent times.

Exploring the towns and cities is a real highlight of any holiday to Georgia. The capital Tbilisi is cosmopolitan, colourful and cool. The old town is particularly atmospheric with narrow lanes, balconied houses and airy squares surrounding the magnificent 17th century Narikala Fortress.

Sighnaghi, sitting on a lofty hilltop, is often considered Georgia’s most attractive town, with its beautifully preserved 18th and 19th century architecture, whilst the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Mtskheta boasts a history stretching back to the 3rd century BC. Let’s not forget the spiritual center of Kutaisi , the relaxing air of the spa town of Borjomi and the frankly astounding subterranean cave towns of Vardzia and Uplistsikhe.

The towering peaks of the Caucasus Mountains will be your constant companion and provide a magnificent backdrop to your adventures. You certainly won’t be lacking a drop of something to toast the wonders on your Georgia holiday either. Georgia is one of the world’s oldest wine producers with a heritage dating back over 8,000 years!
