Surrealism in a riverside setting, the Buddha Park was created in 1958 by a monk called Bunleua Sulilat, who had studied both Buddhism and Hinduism. Featuring 200 statues of gods, demons and animals from both religions, it is an interesting place to explore, made all the more enjoyable by the peaceful riverside setting. The park seems to be a realisation of Bunleua Sulilat’s own brand of mysticism – no-one knows for sure though as he disappeared over the Mekong and created another park in Thailand! Climb the giant pumpkin for the best views over the whole park.
