Semenggoh Nature Reserve

Celebrating 25 Years of tour excellence

Semenggoh was founded as a research and rehabilitation centre for orangutans orphaned, displaced or rescued from captivity, in recent years an ever increasing occurrence as conservationists battle to save habitats from destruction. Here, student orangutans are taught the skills they need to survive in the wild before being released into the nature reserve where they live a wonderful semi-wild existence, choosing how much help or interaction they want with rangers and visitors.

Today, there is a thriving population of adolescent and young adult orangutans, who roam the forest freely and return to the centre if they fancy a free and easy meal. There are morning and afternoon feeding sessions that can be attended by visitors, but you must bear in mind that sometimes, no orangutans will swing by to eat – this is a good thing as it means they are sourcing food for themselves.

On a visit here you can also visit the crocodile and gibbon enclosures, see the hornbills and honey bears that are also here for rehabilitation and learn all about orangutans and their conservation. Semenggoh is a must visit on any Malaysia holidays
