Nepal’s first national park, founded in 1973 as a rhino sanctuary, Chitwan encompasses vast tracts of rich, sub-tropical habitats of Nepal’s lowland Terai area. This is one of Asia’s premier wildlife viewing parks, providing refuge for one of the last populations of the single-horned Asiatic rhino, and a population of endangered Bengal tigers. Within the forests, marshlands and grasslands you’ll also have the chance to spot monkeys, sloth bears, wild boars, elephants and over 600 species of birds.
