Our Tour: Excellent

Southwest China is a beautiful part of China. The tour leader Joe and the local guides were all very good. There was about twelve of us in the group; which was a good number. I particularly liked the Panda conservation centre near Chengdu.

Overall a good introduction to a beautiful part of China. The huge number of visitors and necessary queueing to visit each attraction was rather challenging (I prefer my nature quiet and unspoiled) but I recognise that this is how China does it with a huge population wanting to travel.
The itinerary for the cruise on Erhai Lake was misleading. We went out on a simple boat for about 40 mins to the centre of the lake and stayed there - no interesting views of the lake shore or the other side of the lake and any cormorant fishermen I'm told disappeared over 20 years ago when the much polluted lake was cleaned up and villagers moved inland.
Edward, our national guide, was very caring and much appreciated.
Food and accommodation of a high standard, no health issues.

It’s wonderful to hear that Edward, your national guide, was caring and much appreciated. I’ll be sure to pass on your kind words to him, I know he’ll be delighted! I’m also pleased that you enjoyed a high standard of food and accommodation, and that you had no health issues during your trip.

I do take your point about the crowds and queuing. As you rightly recognise, China’s most scenic spots are incredibly popular, especially during peak seasons. That said, we completely understand the desire for quieter, more unspoiled nature, and we’ll bear that in mind when feeding back on itinerary pacing and seasonality.

More importantly, thank you for raising the issue regarding the Erhai Lake cruise. I’m genuinely sorry that the experience did not match your expectations based on the itinerary description. The mention of cormorant fishermen is something we will review with our local team, if that practice no longer exists, we will update our materials accordingly. A short boat trip to the centre of the lake without shoreline views is clearly not what you were led to expect, and I apologise for any disappointment this caused. We will look into this as a priority to ensure future travellers receive a more accurate picture.

Our Tour: Good

Services and tourist guides are very good. The scenery and tour sites are marvellous but the cuisines needs to getting to. Maybe a bit more plain and less spicy food will suit the western stomache. Did have stomach problems for the first few days. Food is generally to spicy and oily.
