The Award-Winning Tour Specialist
Celebrating 25 Years of tour excellence
Close

Built on a hilltop as a fortified royal residence this fort has experienced 21 captures and been destroyed several times by various emperors and armies. With the only original part being its twin-towered gateway, it has been rebuilt and adapted through time and no longer resembles the original fortress that once towered over the valley.

With a history that spans over 2000 years, it now reflects the architectural styles of the many empires, a caravanserai built-in 1808 where you can still make out the various rooms, a madrassah built in the 16th century with the cells used as classrooms until 1921, and a mausoleum also built in the 16th century.

This fortress is an important heritage site, and you are bound to witness a wedding celebration or two.
