In the north of Azerbaijan lies Gabala (also spelt Qabala) which has a rich and ancient history of over 2000 years, which can be learnt about by visiting its museum and renowned ruins of the ancient walled city, Chukhur Gabala, dating back to the 4 century BC.

It has a small population of less than 13 thousand people and is one of the most ancient cities of Azerbaijan. For 600 years it was the capital of ancient Caucasian Albania.

A city that was repeatedly attacked, destroyed to the ground, and robbed, it is now the center of the north-western region with a high rate of development.

The area of Gabala is known for its natural beauty with waterfalls and mountain streams contributing to it and the city for its handmade carpet factory, where dozens of women work long, hard hours making beautiful and durable Azerbaijani carpets which take 3 months to complete.
