This community of four villages: Murqmeli, Chashashi, Chvibiani and Shibani lie along the river, covering two kilometres. Surrounded by alpine valleys, gorges and snow-capped mountains, the Shkhara glacier lies only 8km away from the highest village of Shibiani.

Ancient Svan defensive towers and dilapidated two-storey stone buildings are still visible in some of these villages. The 1st floor of the facilities you will find a hall with a fireplace, and accommodation for domestic animals and people, separated by a partition. The upper floor is accommodation for people in the summer and storage space for food, fodder and tools.

Known as one of the highest continually inhabited settlements, these communities are self-sustainable, utilizing fertile land and breeding livestock.

These remote villages with sand roads and ancient stone houses, now form the Upper Svaneti UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
