Close

Entrenched in the foothills of the Himalaya, Shimla sprawls along a high ridge at an altitude of 2159 metres. As you can imagine, the town’s position affords the most amazing panoramas across the surrounding ridges, valleys and peaks. It is perhaps India’s most famous and popular hill station, thanks to the fact that it was summer capital during British rule. The town today is still full of colonial remnants as well as bustling markets and streets that are perfect for strolling. The capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla can be reached by the famous Toy Train from Kalka, considered one of the most beautiful railway journeys in the world.

Wildlife of India
