"We are never satisfied until you come back and travel with us again" - Wendy Wu, Founder & Chairwoman

At Wendy Wu Tours, we want to know what you think about the service you receive when you book with us and what you thought about your tour itself. It's this vital information that helps us to improve in the future.

With this in mind, we have teamed up with independent review company feefo. Once you have made a booking or returned from one of our tours, you'll receive an email from feefo asking you to rate your experience with us.

We then display these reviews right here, completely untouched by us, so you can trust them 100%.

We were humbled to receive so much positive feedback from clients affected by the onset of the Coronavirus crisis. We hope the positive experience of customers, who still managed to enjoy their tours even as the pandemic hit, shows how wonderful your experience will be once we all get travelling again.

We also have more fantastic reviews from around the globe on TripAdvisor, including many 5 star!

Natural Treasures of China

Our Tour: Good
So much of this four was absolutely fantastic, there were some aspects that we found a little challenging.
Firstly, the activity rating, we thought was far too low, especially the amount of walking, and steps we were required to navigate, and also the effects of the altitude, that elderly travelers might find more challenging. We thought it would have been at least a level 3 as opposed to 2, however that rating might have put potential travelers off.
We also did not enjoy the amount of "Transit Time" we had at either end of the tour.
We also have to make a special mention of our guides. The National one, Jessie, was excellent, and apart from one, that got a little carried away with the history of a university, they were all superb.
The first part of the tour was fantastic even though the weather was awful. Hard long days, but spectacular. Accommodation was great and while the food wasn't to our taste, it was what we expected as we have traveled through China before.
Chengdu, and the Pandas were definitely one of the highlights of the trip however it has to be mentioned that the hotel had its own problems. We had searched the hotels before we departed, and the Rezen Chengdu had more than a few complains about it smelling of smoke, and it did. The room and rest of the hotel were clean enough, but it still smelt of smoke. Quite poor.
Also, it was a surprise that when you travel on the Bullet Trains, and we had 4 on this trip, the security is even stricter than air travel given all your luggage travel with you, so anything Flammable or over 100ml gets confiscated. Quite a surprise when you get your shaving foam confiscated. The latter part of the tour, and Tibet was awesome, although the standard of the "Celebrity Hotel" Huanglong left a lot to be desired.
All in all, the Tibet experience was awesome.
Chong Qing was the most unexpected highlight in its own right, both the city and the tours. A great end to an excellent tour.
One thing that surprised us though, was the lack of "included" beverages with dinner, give that on our previous Wendy Wu tours, that had been normal. Something we did not expect.
Having done a number of other Wendy Wu tours, it was certainly well up with the high standard set by the previous ones, and also that it did not include any of the areas in China that most other tours include. Definitely one of the features that attracted to this tour. We are certainly looking forward to our next one, Indonesia in 2026.
regards Roger and Joan Coates.

Our Response

Dear Roger and Joan,
What a pleasure to read your feedback and look through your wonderful photos! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the Natural Treasures of China tour. It's wonderful to know that Tibet and the lesser-visited regions lived up to your expectations; that's exactly what we hoped this itinerary would deliver.

We're genuinely grateful for your candid observations, particularly on the physical rating of the tour and transit time. These are important points that help us refine how we position our tours for future customers.

We're delighted that Jessie and the majority of your guides enhanced the experience so positively. We also appreciate your understanding about the food and accommodation, though we're sorry to hear about the smoke smell at the Chengdu hotel. That's not the standard we aim for, and we'll pass this feedback directly to our partners in China.

On the bullet train, liquid restrictions can be frustratingly strict. We'll see if we can flag this more clearly in our pre-departure information in the future.
We also note your comment about including beverages with dinner, and we'll investigate this further with our team. If you would like to discuss any of these points further, please do get in touch with our customer service team at customerservice@wendywutours.co.nz.

It's been a joy to have you back with us, and we can't wait to welcome you to Indonesia in 2026. Thank you so much for your continued loyalty to Wendy Wu Tours.

Went with Wendy Wu Tours as we had been with this company before to China. The holiday was simply excellent. Having got back home people say "How was your holiday ?" .... It's difficult to sum it up in one sentence. It was everything I hoped it would be and then some !! The people with us on the tour were great the guides in both Cambodia and Vietnam were superb it's tricky to fault it to be fair. If you want to see Indo China then book up and go to these two countries. If you don't enjoy it then take a long hard look at yourself...

Fantastic trip, flawless from start to finish. Guided through this full on experience by the best national tour guide that we have ever met, many thanks and kudos to Mr Hoffman who went out of his way to make our visit to this visually stunning and beautiful country. Nothing was to much trouble for this kind and knowledgeable man, we cannot thank him enough for his attention to details and individual guests. I may add that all of the local guides were of the same mind set and knowledgeable. We would not hesitate to recommend this tour, but a certain amount of fitness is required as this experience consists of a hectic schedule to see all that we had, but well worth the effort. Thanks again Mr Hoffman, I hope the company values your dedication to the brand and reward you accordingly, I wish you well my friend. "Yellow hat"

A comprehensive tour of the best of China and Japan. Excellent hotels, superb guides. You must be prepared to support very early starts on most days as it is the only way to enjoy many of the popular venues before the crowds arrive. Leaving the hotel on a coach by 07.30 is not unusual. It would be impossible to cover as much ground and visit so many of the stand out destinations as a solo traveller. Our Wendy Wu supported travel arrangements with multiple flights and bullet train journeys proved faultless. Overall we felt this tour offered good value for money.

I should start with mentioning Frank, our tour guide, who was excellent in not only acting as a shepherd with his "flock" but was extremely knowledgable about places visited and ever so helpful when problems arose such as sickness, emergencies, hospital visits, medication etc. Always patient, good natured and a great sense of humour. This was a once in a lifetime trip and the destinations visited fulfilled all our desires - Xian, Beijing, Dali, Kunming, Yangtze river, Chongqing, ChengDu, Guillin, Yangshuo, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong! It truly was stunning and unforgettable, and exhausting! This tour requires a good degree of fitness as there will be substantial walking involved. It also involves a high degree of transport and frequent packing / unpacking between accommodations. If there was one criticsm I would have to make, it would be able to spend more "me time" in some of the destinations even if this reduces the itinerary.

An amazing holiday that feasts your eyes (Haung Pao river tour at night), nourishes your soul (Guilin River Tour) and exercise your legs (walking the Great Wall), these are among the many highlights of the tour. This tour covers many of the must-see tourist attractions of China and then some, at a price that offers astonishing value. The standard of hotels and meals are (with exception of Huangshan and YangShou), above expectation. The high speed rails journeys are the ideal way to cover long distances in this great country. Our national tour guide George skillfully sherperds us through vast railway stations, security checks and e-ticket inspections; depicts the development of modern China engagingly and addresses sensitive questions with diplomacy, subtlety - the way of tai chi. I would have no hesitation to book another Wenfy Wu tour if it was led by George! May be a trip along the silk route?

Ancient Empires of China & Japan
This a fairly fast paced tour but a good way to see the best of the two countries in a short time.
Hotels were generally good but located out of town so not much nearby. All hotels had WiFi and kettles, and most had fridges. The schedule was pretty full so there was little free time to wander round alone for shopping, drinks etc - especially in China. However there was usually a small general store nearby for snacks and sundries.
Guides in both countries (Ian in China and Nao in Japan) were knowledgeable and spoke good English. There were optional activities in China at each place we stopped - they were all excellent but you need to budget for them (about £30 each person per event). The advice in Wendy Wu regarding AliPay and eSims are worth reading. I used a Holafly eSim - great in China but not such good coverage in Japan. I was able to use my social apps normally in China via the eSim.
In China, as part of the tour, the local guides will take you to "approved" stores attached to varoius cultural activities such as silk making; teracotta army, jade factory etc etc. Be prepared for a hard sell (I guess the local guides get a cut); the prices are very negotiable and if you want to buy something there you should aim to pay 40-50% (or less if you are a good haggler) of the initial asking price
Alipay is universally accepted and is the easiest way to pay, although Mastercard was accepted in larger premises. Cash was also widely accepted.
Food was ok - nothing too extreme although the veggies suffered a bit from lack of choice, especially in Japan. Fortunately they ate fish, otherwise it would have been an austere diet for them.
Be prepared for some long days with plenty of walking and a bit of stair climbing. And a lot of eating - the tour caters for 3 meals a day !
