“The Lake of Alexander the Great” is of glacial origin in the Fann Mountains at an altitude of 2195 metres. With a hinterland of rocky peaks, this crater lake is 72 meters deep and has a crystal-clear turquoise colour.

One favourable legend is that he and his army were attacked by villagers while resting along the lake's shores. Finding himself driven to the edge of a cliff, his horse stumbled, and they fell in. Alexander survived, but his horse did not.

There is almost no aquatic life in the lake due to the high mineral concentration. Not far away, where the Iskanderdaria river creates a waterfall, there is a Juniper Tree with thousands of ribbons tied to it by visitors who make a wish that will come true another day.

While the many legends remain unverified, the beauty and serenity of this lake are not.
