"We are never satisfied until you come back and travel with us again" - Wendy Wu, Founder & Chairwoman

At Wendy Wu Tours, we want to know what you think about the service you receive when you book with us and what you thought about your tour itself. It's this vital information that helps us to improve in the future.

With this in mind, we have teamed up with independent review company feefo. Once you have made a booking or returned from one of our tours, you'll receive an email from feefo asking you to rate your experience with us.

We then display these reviews right here, completely untouched by us, so you can trust them 100%.

We were humbled to receive so much positive feedback from clients affected by the onset of the Coronavirus crisis. We hope the positive experience of customers, who still managed to enjoy their tours even as the pandemic hit, shows how wonderful your experience will be once we all get travelling again.

We also have more fantastic reviews from around the globe on TripAdvisor, including many 5 star!

Wonders of China

Thursday 30 Oct 2025
Overview Rating:
Our Tour: Excellent
I have recently returned from a Wendy Wu Wonders of China Tour (10-24 Oct) and wish to place on record how much I enjoyed the tour. That enjoyment stemmed not only from the comprehensive Itinerary and places visited but also to the highly knowledgeable, hard working, dedicated and caring Tour Guide 'Betty' (an English name given to herself to make it easier for us to address her). She spoke excellent English and led the tour with a smile and sense of humour but always ensured the group knew exactly where to be and at what time whilst giving us detailed information about the place(s) we were visiting and their history and heritage which, of course, enabled us to more fully understand the purposes of what we saw, the origins of what we saw and so much more. I cannot speak highly enough of this lady and if I were to visit China again, I would hope that 'Betty' would be my guide again.

The meals and wide range of Chinese cuisine we experienced were also first class with all tastes catered for.

Can I also add that the information and advice provided pre-tour by Wendy Wu Tours was excellent and ensured that I was fully prepared for this tour and helped ensure my enjoyment and fulfillment whilst on this tour. Thank you.

This is the second time we have travelled with Wendy Wu Tours and cannot fault them in any way whatsoever and will definitely be travelling with them again in the future. The tour was extremely well organised from start to finish and our guide was with us all the way and really helped to make the holiday perfect. I had a dietary requirement and I was catered for on every occasion above and beyond. The tour takes in all the essence of Japan, its lifestyle and culture. Absolutely perfect in every way.

Our Tour: Good
5 star tour leader, Luis- Always looking out for group members. Very well organized.
5 star local tour guide, Jackie. Friendly, excellent communication. Sad to see him finish.
4 star other local guides - too much talking and information which will not be remembered, and English not always up to 5 star level.
5 star and wonderful food.- No need to do Pizza Hut lunch or Radisson Hotel steak and chips. Neither up to expected standard. We loved Chinese food.
Cut out the 3 days across Desert. Fly Turpan to Kashgar. What we saw in these 3 days was not interesting enough to warrant the long bus rides.
Three lots of Budhist caves on the tour was overkill. especially the one in Kuqa.
Excellent consideration of toilet stops on long bus rides with good facilities.
Needs a day, mid tour, with no activity in a city where the hotel is close to main shops. End of day after dinner and a long day was insufficient opportunity to fulfill any shopping desires, especially non tourist souvenir shopping. Came home having not been able to buy anything on my shopping list.
Hotels were all excellent and where small fridge (for medication storage) was not in the room, Luis made suitable arrangements.
Almost all the group had been to China before. Guides need to consider this when talking non stop. WWT needs to consider this choosing sightseeing in Beijing and Shanghai. Pre tour questionnaire would enable WWT to plan different sights new to many of the group. Nearly all the group had already been to Beijing.
Beijing on Golden week, weekend was a disaster. Both days were total repeats for me and others and not enjoyed. The crowds were a nightmare. Millions locals sightseeing and enjoying the holiday weekend.
ESim - Recommendations for ESim not to include Airalo. No connection for 2 of us while in Gusan province. Big disappointment. Do not recommend this ESim.
I loved that everything was taken care of and led by a really superb, very intelligent and caring Tour Leader, Luis. Would book with Wendy Wu Tours again.
Thank you. Edreen

Our Response

Hi Edreen, thank you so much for taking the time to share such thoughtful and comprehensive feedback about your Silk Road adventure. We really appreciate the level of detail; it's invaluable in helping us continue to improve our tours.
We're absolutely thrilled to hear that Luis made such a positive impact on your journey! He'll be delighted to know how much you appreciated his organisation, intelligence, and care for the group. Jackie will also be pleased to hear your kind words – it's wonderful when our local guides connect so well with travellers. Luis will also be glad to know his arrangements for medication storage were helpful.

Your feedback about the itinerary is really valuable. We understand that the three days crossing the desert felt lengthy for what you experienced, and that multiple Buddhist cave sites felt repetitive. We also hear you about the lunch venues – when travellers are enjoying authentic Chinese cuisine throughout the tour, Western options can feel like a missed opportunity! Your point about needing a proper shopping day mid-tour rather than just in the evening is excellent, and we'll pass this on to our product team. We also appreciate your insights about catering to experienced China travellers. The idea of a pre-tour questionnaire to gauge previous experience and adjust sightseeing accordingly is really interesting, especially for tours where many guests have visited Beijing before. Unfortunately, Golden Week crowds are beyond our control, but we understand how challenging that experience can be. Thank you also for the feedback about the eSIM provider – we'll certainly review our recommendations. It's wonderful to hear you loved having everything taken care of by Luis and that the hotels and toilet facilities throughout met your needs. Thank you for choosing Wendy Wu Tours, and we'd love to welcome you on another adventure in the future!
Warm regards,

China by Land, Japan by Sea

Wednesday 08 Oct 2025
Overview Rating:
Our Tour: Good
The Wendy Wu, China by Land, section with Ken, their guide was exceptional in all aspects. We would rather not have done the Japan by Sea section. It was a very big ship catering for the Asian market and we considered that both the food and entertainment was no very good. The gripe for us is that the ships organized tours were a bad joke. Very expensive to see one or two temples and then left to sped the rest of the time in shopping areas. We got no feel for the real Japan and based on this experience alone, we would not go back there.

Our Response

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback on your China by Land, Japan by Sea tour. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the China section of your journey and that Ken provided exceptional service throughout , we’ll be sure to pass along your kind comments to him.

We’re sorry to learn, however, that the cruise portion did not meet your expectations. The Japan by Sea element is operated in partnership with the cruise line, and we appreciate your comments regarding the food, entertainment, and shore excursions. Your feedback will be shared with our product team and the cruise partner to review how we can better align the experience with the immersive cultural focus that Wendy Wu Tours is known for.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts, they help us continue improving every part of our holidays. We do hope we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you on another tour in the future, perhaps one of our land-based Japan tours, which offer a deeper cultural experience of this fascinating country. Thanks again for writing, it is much appreciated. Jimmy, Wendy Wu Tours.

Japan Uncovered

Our Tour: Excellent
Our first escorted tour and probably the best holiday we had! From being greeted off our delayed flight in Osaka with a big smile from our Wendy Wu greeter, ensured we were on our way to our hotel. A big smile and greeting from our guide, Taichi Imamura at the hotel although late, made us feel "at home" and he ensured that we had our bentobox dinner.
Words cannot describe how Taichi made sure that everyone knew what was happening at each place we stopped at, where the best rest rooms were, places to pick up snacks. Even taking photos for everyone with their cameras and phones to ensure all memories were saved of the magnificent sights we saw. All the coach drivers were fantastic throughout the tour, hotels were very good and generally spacious and the places we were taken to for lunch and dinner had excellent facilities and good quality food. I can safely say that all the people on the tour, which comprised Australians, New Zealanders, Tasmanians and English, from the very first evening to the last all got on and mixed amongst each other and some great fun times were had by all.
We even found time to locate a few "Irish hubs"(pub) on the evenings and had some great laughs with Brian and Brenda from New Zealand, Tom and Kim and Stella/Julia in them. There were so many places we saw including Mount Fuji, Hiroshima dome and museum (which brought the heartache of suffering to mind), so many beautiful shrines and temples, finishing with seeing Sumo wrestling and the gorgeous Imperial East gardens and Shabuya scramble crossing. The views from the Sky Tree Tower were unbelievable too!
So clean, so cultural, so friendly, so beautiful. That was Japan uncovered for us!
Thank you Wendy Wu Tours

Our Response

Everyone at Wendy Wu Tours was delighted to read your review. Taichi is one of our best guides and we are so pleased that he was your guide for your tour. We hope to be of service to you again soon. Many thanks for taking the time to write your lovely review. Kind regards, Jimmy, Wendy Wu Tours.

Gems of China

Looked at several Wendy wu tours to China but this one seemed to cover a lot of what we wanted to see . Did not disappoint, very well organised by our fantastic tour guide Penny and aided by brilliant local guides . She really helped the group gel with her positive outlook and happy personality. Nothing was to much trouble and every experience amazing .
We were lucky to share the trip with a great group of people and have many great memories .
It is a very full on tour which we expected from the itinerary. It was lovely to dine out in local restaurants and try some local dishes .
Well done Wendy wu and especially Penny .

Our Response

Thanks so much for your review, we'll be sure to pass on your comments to Penny and her colleagues; they will be delighted to receive your feedback. We do hope you will travel with us again soon. Kind regards, Jimmy, Wendy Wu Tours.

Had the most amazing holiday on our recent visit to China. The tour was so well planned allowing us to see and do so much. We upgraded on the river cruise which was good value for money. The standard of hotels were very good in every city.
We had an exceptional tour guide called Ivy who attended to our every need and often went above and beyond to help our group. Would definitely recommend Wendy Wu tours for excellent service.

Thanks so much for your review. We're delighted you enjoyed your holiday and Ivy will be thrilled to hear of your comments. We do hope you will travel with us again! Jimmy, Wendy Wu Tours.

Our Tour: Excellent
Really excellent tour. Visited all the iconic sights and places in China. Covered an amazing area of the country helped by bullet train and internal flights so this tour didn’t feel as strenuous as tours I have been on before with other operators. Wendy Wu and our lovely Chinese guide were extremely organised. I think China should be on everyone’s bucket list and I would have no hesitation in recommending Wendy Wu as the best company to travel with. Good standard of hotels and restaurants. Great value.

A China Experience

This was our first trip with Wendy Wu tours and it’s worth every penny.

They did everything they could to make this tour as memorable as possible, from personal pick up and drop off at the airports, arranging all the best sights, transport, food, knowledgeable local tour guides and just making sure that every single minute was a pleasure.

We started in Shanghai, then flew to Xian and finally took the bullet train to Beijing before coming back to the Uk via Hong Kong.

All credit to Louis, our hugely knowledgeable tour guide, photographer, interpreter and nanny. His hard work made this tour run like clockwork and we always felt safe and looked after where ever we went.

Go to China, the people are friendly, welcoming and they truly love their country and it’s amazing history.

Panoramic Peru

Our Tour: Excellent
An excellent tour of the most magnificent spots in Peru, a country of wonderful culture, cuisine and traditions. The organisation, hotels, meals and transport were all of a high standard. The transition to touring at altitude was made gradually so no significant altitude sickness issues in our group. However, Peruvian tour guide Frank Jare turned the trip from excellent to outstanding. His knowledge, organisation, support and most importantly passion for Peru is what puts Wendy Wu tours ahead of its competitors. Thank you Frank.

China Delights

Our Tour: Excellent
Well organised from start to finish with good knowledgable English speaking national and local destination guides. They were responsible for assisting the group in all manner of travel and personal issues.
The itinerary was comprehensive and involved travel by coach, boats, airplanes and high speed bullet trains. We were warned prior to going of the difficulty of any terrain, length of walking and alternative options if one was not up to the task that day.
The food usually started with a comprehensive buffet breakfast, followed by many courses of Chinese food for lunch and sumptuous dinners every day. The hotels were mostly four star rated and one or two much better.
Much display of high technology around. Payment apps etc were superb, cash and credit cards acceptable and locals ready to assist when needed.
It is amazing to see the thousands of locals including tourists all mingling together with no pushing or shouting. The same applied to road traffic and travel. Everywhere we went was kept clean and spotless and this is on the roads and trains too. There was no rubbish or plastic lying around anywhere. There were beautiful parks and open spaces for residents to enjoy activities or walk around. All beautifully laid out and maintained to a very high standard.
However you need your passport all the time for entry to venues, hotels, trains and a mobile phone that can work in China with adequate data. If you purchase data from abroad before entering China you can still use WhatsApp. Also get the Ali Pay app with a foreign bank visa/master card pre-registered, then shopping and paying for purchases is easy.
However because of thousands of high surveillance facial recognition cameras all around and law enforcement officers it seemed very safe to wander around the towns and places we stayed. The whole experience is welcoming, eye-opening, super efficient and a wish by the organisers to let you enjoy and have a memorable trip of China.
We had heard of Wendy Wu tours from friends that highly rated them, and have not been disappointed with our decision to book with Wendy Wu. We will certainly consider going with them again on their other tours.

Japan Uncovered

Monday 21 Apr 2025
Overview Rating:
Our Tour: Good
This was an extremely expensive holiday for what we got. We paid over £16,000 for 2 people for 15 days. Accommodation in Japan is not expensive and although the hotels were 3-4 stars and very nice, they did not have a bar or social lounge to relax in for us and chat to the others on our trip that we had met. None of the hotels were located in the centre of the towns that you could walk to a bar or explore either. Therefore we were off to our rooms at 8pm because the hotel restaurant would close at 8 or 9pm. In particular, the Hotel in Tokyo was badly located, very disappointing when we had 3 nights here and a free day! We chose Wendy Wu as we travelled with them in 2010 to China and had a fantastic trip and they were the only tour company that covered ALL meals. Not knowing the language we didn't want to try finding restaurants to eat and try to work out what the local food was. Having been to all the main towns many places are written in an English version or you can use a translater app. Having 3 meals a day was too much. The food was very similar, raw fish, 1 tempura prawn 2 veg tempura, rice, not many noodle dishes Ramen style. miso soup, some beef in a hot pot you cooked yourself. We wanted to experience Japanese meals, but 30 meals was just too much! If they cut out the lunch meal it would have been perfect as most of us left a lot of it, this would then allow more time at the temples, shrines, shops etc. Most of us just fancied a coffee and cake for lunch or even a burger!
Our guide was trully lovely, Chiyami, she was fun, knowledgeable and looked after our every need. If you have a food allergy you will struggle, not many restaurants cater. So a tour with less meals would be your option. We all thought the cherry blossom was a disappointment after all the hype in advertising. We were there in the height of blossom but the tours do not take you to the famous sights and most of it is white blossom. The UK have far more blossom!
Japan is a wonderful, safe country and the people have to be the nicest nation in the world. So care free, relaxed and all so friendly and helpful, despite the issues above we enjoyed the sights and the people we met.
